Ambulance vs. Car Crash Sends Four To Hospital In Costa Mesa

COSTA MESA, CA — Three people were hurt in a traffic collision on south Newport Boulevard and Fair Drive, Tuesday midday, when a car struck a private ambulance on its way to the hospital.

The ambulance was "rolling, lights and sirens," according to Costa Mesa Police Department spokeswoman Roxi Fyad. "A driver collided with the ambulance at the intersection of Newport and Fair.

Costa Mesa Fire Captain Joe Noceti described the scene to Patch.

"About 12:40 p.m., a private ambulance from Lynch was transporting a critical patient to an area hospital," Noceti says.

Costa Mesa Firefighters arrived at the scene and realized how critical the patient was, according to Noceti. Medics immediately continued that patient on to a local hospital," Noceti says.

At the scene, two patients inside the Lynch ambulance were found with mild to moderate injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was also assessed and treated. All were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, according to Noceti.

As of 3 p.m., the roads were back open, once again.
