ORANGE COUNTY, CA —The charges against the two arrested on suspicion of a fatal road rage attack that ended in 6-year-old Aiden Leos's death were released Tuesday.

After two weeks of an intense manhunt across Southern California, Marcus Anthony Eriz, 24, and his girlfriend Wynne Lee, 23, were arrested at their Costa Mesa apartment Sunday. California Highway Patrol investigators and associated agencies received over 100 tips as they searched for the white Volkswagen. At last, a tip with a visible license plate ultimately enabled them to make the arrest, they say.

Both the white Volkswagen and the weapon thought to have fired the lethal shot were recovered, CHP says.

Eriz faces murder charges and charges discharge of a gun at an inhabited dwelling, with sentencing enhancements for causing death to the victim. The Orange County District Attorney's office has asked that he be held on $2 million bail.

Eriz faces a maximum sentence of 40 years to life if convicted on all counts, according to the OCDA's office.

Wynne Lee is charged with a felony count of being an accessory after the fact and a misdemeanor count of a concealed firearm in a vehicle. The OCDA is asking her bail be reduced to $500,000.

Lee faces a maximum of 3 years in state prison plus one year in Orange County Jail if convicted on all counts.

The arraignment was continued until 9 a.m. on June 18, according to the court.

On May 21, gunshots came from a white Volkswagen after the mother of Aiden Leos exited the high occupancy vehicle lanes of the 55 freeway. Aiden, buckled safely into his car seat, was struck in the stomach and died shortly thereafter. The community reeled from the event and raised over $500,000 for information leading to the conviction of his killers.

“Six-year-olds should be playing in the sun and eating ice cream, not being memorialized at funerals. Aiden’s life is a life interrupted and of potential that will never be realized,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. “We will never know what Aiden could have been or what he could have accomplished and that is nothing short of tragic. The California Highway Patrol and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office were relentless in the pursuit of the two individuals responsible and we will be relentless in the pursuit of justice for Aiden.”
