Newport Beach Breakers Open Season, Proceeds Benefit Diabetes Center

The Newport Beach Breakers will hold Diabetes Awareness Night Tuesday night as they open their World Team Tennis season against the St. Louis Aces at The Tennis Club Newport Beach.

Proceeds will benefit the Mary and Dick Allen Diabetes Center at Hoag
Hospital, which offers educational and support services designed specifically to meet the needs of patients with diabetes and their families through prevention, early detection, prompt care, education and support.

The Allens founded the center after their 2 1/2-year-old granddaughter
was diagnosed with diabetes. The center's programs include diabetes self-management education; medical nutrition therapy; insulin pump instruction; continuous glucose monitoring sensor instruction; and pediatric diabetes services.
