Newport Beach Police Cracking Down On Loud Exhaust, Street Racing

Throughout the summer, officers in Newport Beach will be on the lookout for cars with illegal exhaust systems, police said.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Authorities in Newport Beach are doing their part to ensure a safe and quiet summer, the city's police department announced on Friday.

Throughout the summer, officers will patrol the city and be on high alert for vehicles with loud or modified exhaust systems that are not compliant with California regulations, Newport Beach Police Department said in a news release.

Drivers whose cars have illegal exhaust systems will be given tickets.

Police will also be on the lookout for street racing, a dangerous and illegal practice that has cost Orange County residents their lives and led to drivers facing criminal charges.

Police said drivers caught racing could be given a ticket, and their cars could be impounded.
