The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has announced that distance learning will continue indefinitely.
NEWPORT BEACH, CA – The Newport-Mesa Unified School District has announced that distance learning will continue indefinitely in an effort to stop the spread of the new coronavirus and in accordance with recommendations from the governor.
The school district made the announcement on Thursday, referencing comments from California Governor Gavin Newsom that although school building are closed instruction should continue in an effort to ensure students receive a good education through the end of the school year. As a result, all of the campuses in the district will be closed to students for the remainder of the school year.
"Our teachers and staff have done an incredible job navigating this difficult situation and we appreciate everyone's understanding and support as we continue to prepare our students for future success," the district said in the announcement.

There are a number of logistical issues to figure out, including making sure high school seniors are on track to graduate, options for end-of-year activities including graduation, and college admissions requirements.
Remote instruction will not take place April 6-10 as the district observes spring recess, but student meals will continue. Starting April 6, breakfast meals will be provided with each lunch.
