Passengers bound for San Jose got a scare Monday when their Southwest Airlines plane filled with smoke, all were forced to slide to safety.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA - Passengers were preparing to depart for San Jose when smoke filled the Southwest Airlines cabin just after pushing back from the gate, Monday, according to a John Wayne Airport spokesperson. The smoke was believed to have come from an auxiliary power unit, officials said.

"Flight 2123 to San Jose had just pushed back about 7:30 p.m. when smoke was detected in the cabin of the Boeing 737," airport spokeswoman Deanne Thompson said. "Passengers were evacuated from the plane using emergency slides."

Some people sustained minor injuries but no one needed to be taken to a hospital, according to Thompson.
