Today's unusually warm temperatures result from an offshore flow combined with a strong ridge of high pressure aloft, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Bruno. In contrast to the 84 expected in Long Beach and both the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys today, normal highs for this time of the year are 65-70, he said
The NWS forecast highs today of 70 in Palmdale and Lancaster; 73 on Mount Wilson; 74 in Newport Beach; 78 in Avalon; 79 in Saugus; 81 at LAX; 83 in downtown L.A and Anaheim; and 84 in Long Beach, Pasadena, San Gabriel and Woodland Hills.
Temperatures will dip by around 8 degrees Tuesday, perhaps another 8 degrees on Wednesday and another 5 degrees on Thursday, when showers are expected, according to an NWS forecast. But on Saturday, highs will climb back to 70 in several communities amid sunny skies.
Today will be breezy, but nothing like the winds that created fire weather conditions over the weekend, forecasters said. A red flag warning in force in much of Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties expired at 6 p.m. Sunday.
