Wearing A Mask Can Save Economy, Newport Beach Chamber Says

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce shared the new state coronavirus orders Monday, along with a continued commitment to help businesses.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce reacted today to the news from Gov. Gavin Newsom after an "exponential rise" in coronavirus cases.

Steve Rosansky of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce discussed the changes in orders with area businesses in a video release.

"Today, Governor Newsom ordered the immediate closure of indoor operations at malls, in all non-critical office sectors, at places of worship, hair salons, barbershops and personal care services," he said.

Non-critical businesses, worship centers, indoor malls and other businesses without established curbside and takeout services, it was announced Monday. Restaurants, wineries, zoos, museums, and movie theaters will be closed statewide.

"What does this mean?" Rosansky asked. "The new closure orders will force businesses to shut their doors again, and force many office workers back home as their employers comply with the new closure orders."

This will also put a strain on cities, like Newport Beach, as tax revenues are once again expected to plummet. Rosansky says that more will join the ranks of the unemployed.

Since the coronavirus shutdown began in March, the Newport Beach Chamber has worked with the city council's Ad Hoc Committee on re-opening businesses. They have advocated for Newport Beach businesses with the city, county, state and federal representatives and have helped the small business community apply for financial assistance as well as unemployment benefits.

"Please wear a mask in public and practice physical distancing to help save our economy," he says.
