Wendi Miller, CEO of Wings For Justice, Remembered
As friends and family remember the outspoken Costa Mesa family rights advocate, the homicide investigation into her death continues to grow.
COSTA MESA, CA —Wings For Justice CEO Wendi Miller, 48, died over the weekend in what Newport Beach police have ruled a homicide. Her family last contacted her early Saturday morning, according to reports. The next day, she and former San Diego Gulls hockey player Darren Partch, 38, were found dead inside Partch's upscale Newport Beach apartment.
Homicide detectives are investigating the double homicide as an "isolated incident," and have said that there is no danger to the public, according to Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman Heather Rangel. But family and friends are struggling with the blunt reality of her death.
Miller was the cornerstone of the Newport Beach non-profit advocacy group Wings For Justice. She desired to protect children and families from abusive situations and corruption in the courtroom, which was both of primary professional and personal focus. Miller advocated in the family courtroom for those who experienced domestic violence as herself, a mother of two, had experienced the same, according to the Wings For Justice website.

"Wings for Justice was created to educate the public and offer resources, and bring healing to those who had been adversely affected by the family court system," Miller said in the video.
In another video, author and advocate Lundy Bancroft described that Miller lost custody of her children in Ottawa County, Michigan, eight years ago. She and her daughter were domestic violence survivors at the hands of her ex-husband, a pastor in Colorado Springs, and Miller's children had been taken from her in family court — giving her the impetus for developing her platform, Bancroft explained.

Miller's son, Luke Carpenter, shed more light about Miller's passing over Facebook, thanking all for their love and support in the search that came to an abrupt and tragic end.
In his post (below) Carpenter wrote that his mother was found "shot," adding that "she did not suffer." He also thanked all who prayed for them, asking for prayers more now than ever.
The investigation into Miller's death is ongoing, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
Friends and family of Costa Mesa resident Wendi Miller flooded social media over the weekend, concerned for her whereabouts. Fearing the worst, but hoping for the best, they described how she left Sandpiper Bar with Partch in her white Lexus.
When asked, the Newport Beach Police told Patch that Miller's Lexus had not yet been found.
The Newport Beach Police Department have asked anyone with information about the case to call Detective Rick Henry at 949-644-3797.
