Where To Take Evacuated Pets In Orange County

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Families evacuated during the Silverado Fire and Blue Ridge Fires concerned about their house pets, including dogs, cats and small pets, can go to Orange County Animal Care for help, that organization has said.

A Tustin area shelter is accepting the house pets for displaced residents at 1630 Victory Rd. Tustin, CA 92782. Please call (714) 935-6848 for more information.

"If possible, please bring photo identification, veterinary/vaccination records, special food, and medications along with your animals," they said.

Irvine residents are also encouraged to visit cityofirvine.org for a map and list of shelters accepting both people and their pets.

"Animal owners currently under evacuation warning (voluntary) or evacuation order (mandatory) are strongly encouraged to evacuate with their pets as the emergency may prevent resources from entering impacted areas to assist with animals due to safety concerns," a spokesperson for OC Animal Care says.

Large animal owners under an evacuation warning (voluntary) order are encouraged to implement their personal evacuation plans.

Horse owners who need to evacuate their horses as a precaution may enter through the roadblock at Santiago and Live Oak near Cook’s Corner.

This is the only location allowing residents through, according to OC Animal Care.

Large animal owners under an evacuation order (mandatory) are directed to take their animals to OC Fair and Events Center at 905 Arlington Drive, Costa Mesa.

Please note that horse and livestock owners will need to provide care for their animals if taken there, a spokesperson says.

Shavings will be provided, but all other items such as food, medications, etc. will be the owner’s responsibility.
