46 Lose Power In Chatsworth

46 customers in western Chatsworth lost power Thursday due to a Public Safety Power Shutoff.

CHATSWORTH, CA — 46 residents of western Chatsworth, near the Chatsworth Reservoir, are without power due to an SCE Public Safety Power Shutoff as of Thursday afternoon, according to SCE.

The area stretching from western Chatsworth into Ventura County is being monitored for a PSPS from Thursday to midnight Monday, according to SCE, due to high winds, high temperatures, and dry conditions. Chatsworth was put under a Red Flag critical fire warning starting Thursday at 4 p.m.

Numerous communities in neighboring Ventura County, including large swaths of Moorpark, Simi Valley, and Santa Clarita are also being monitored for outages, and some portions of them have already lost power. A similar area was impacted during the last round of PSPS shutoffs. See here for a map of affected areas.

These 46 customers are currently the only ones in LA County without power, but 20,998 live in areas under consideration for a shutoff, according to SCE. 14,963 in Ventura County live in areas under consideration.

"We fully realize that PSPS events significantly impact our customer’s daily lives and create hardships on our customers and communities – a burden that is even more consequential with so many customers working and learning from home," said an SCE spokesperson.

"Our number one priority is the safety of customers, employees and communities, and that is why we continue to use PSPS as a part of our wildfire risk mitigation efforts. If we are forced to shut of power to protect the public, we make every attempt to reduce the number of customers impacted and the length of the outage and turn power on as soon as it is safe to do so."

SCE could not give an estimated time when power will be restored, but said that "final restoration efforts will begin once the winds abate and SCE line crews can inspect the lines to ensure they are safe to reenergize."

A community crew vehicle containing PSPS information, light snacks, water, small resiliency devices, and personal protection equipment is stationed at 23449 Lake Manor Dr. in Chatsworth Thursday until 10 p.m.
