Abandoned Flower Shop Catches Fire In Winnetka
Under renovation, the vacant building posed challenges for firefighters.

WINNETKA, CA — Firefighters needed 30 minutes Friday morning to extinguish a fire in an abandoned flower shop in Winnetka.
Crews responded to the 7200 block of Corbin Avenue, near Sherman Way, at 6:52 a.m. and saw heavy fire through the roof from the building, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Because of holes in the floor of the building, a total of 86 firefighters battled the fire from outside. The building was vacant and under renovation and the interior of the structure was nearly empty with walls in the framing stage, allowing firefighters to snuff out the flames without going inside, Stewart said.
