CSUN Professor Is Researching Effects Of Technology On Youth
Professor Hurwitz will be making a commitment to study technology's effects on young people's social, emotional, and mental health.

We use technology for everything, from shopping to socializing. With the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we have become even more reliant on technology for all our needs. However, the long-term effects of using technology are still unclear.
California State University, Northridge psychology professor, Delinah Hurwitz, will be undertaking a research initiative to examine the effects of excessive screen time on students.
She felt compelled to study this after she saw her daughter transition to virtual learning, and she observed the difficulties her daughter had when classes moved to Zoom.
She also saw the difficulties her daughter faced when solely
communicating with friends through video calls and text messages. This
piqued her interest.

Professor Hurwitz will be making a commitment to study technology’s effects on
young people’s social, emotional, and mental health. While she has
always believed excessive technology use to contribute to anxiety, this
will open up a whole new avenue of academic inquiry for psychologists to explore.
