“We recognize that for many people, being able to get your vaccine in a public location like a Metro station, a retail store, a community or faith-based organization or an outdoor recreation space in or closer to your neighborhood makes it more convenient,” Davis told City News Service.
The CSUN site opened Jan. 19 as part of the county’s six mass vaccine sites. Situated on two large parking lots outside the campus, it vaccinated as many as 12,000 people a day. Although the university was not involved in the administration of the vaccine, about 55 volunteers from the nursing school helped deliver shots.
Approximately 65% of LA County residents 16 or over have received at least one dose, according to new statistics released Monday, while 54% of county residents are fully vaccinated. While those numbers put the county on track to reach President Biden’s goal of a 70% vaccination rate by July 4, Black and Latino residents 29 below are being vaccinated at about half the rate of whites and Asians. The county and state are trying to improve rates through mobile vaccine sites and incentives like money, gift cards, and sports tickets.
