Extreme Heat Warning Issued In Northridge-Chatsworth
The second big heat wave of the season is bringing triple-digit temperatures to Northridge and Chatsworth.
NORTHRIDGE, CA — Summer has more than officially begun, with high winds and more scorching temperatures expected in Northridge and Chatsworth.
The Los Angeles County Health Officer has issued an extreme heat warning for the Santa Clarita Valley from Saturday through Tuesday, the Antelope Valley Saturday through Tuesday, and the West San Fernando Valley Sunday through Tuesday.
Heat alerts have also been issued in the East San Fernando Valley, East San Gabriel Valley, and Los Angeles Basin.

The Antelope Valley is expected to see temperatures approaching 110 degrees.
Highs will reach 100 degrees in Northridge on Sunday, with similar conditions Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will remain in the upper 90s through the rest of the week. Wind gusts of up to 15 miles an hour are expected, according to the National Weather Service..

Public health officials are urging caution in the hot weather.
"Public Health reminds everyone to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness, especially older adults, young children, outdoor workers, athletes, and people with a chronic medical condition who are especially sensitive to negative health impacts from extreme heat," officials said.
Health officials urge people to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated during high temperatures days.
"If you must go out, plan your day to avoid going out during the hottest hours, and wear sunscreen," officials said. "Wear lightweight, light-colored clothes, and wear a hat or use an umbrella."
In the event of a power outage, free, air-conditioned cooling centers are available at the following locations:
- San Fernando Recreation Park, 208 Park Ave., San Fernando; open until 7 p.m.; open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day
- San Fernando Library, 217 N. Maclay Ave., San Fernando; open until 8 p.m., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. the rest of the week
- Old Town Newhall Library, 24500 Main St., Santa Clarita; open until 8 p.m., open 10 a.m.-6p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
- Stevenson Ranch Library, 25950 The Old Road, Stevenson Ranch; open until 8 p.m., open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Friday
