Fire At Chatsworth Hay Store Threatens Surrounding Structures

Heavy flames fueled by bales of hay at a Chatsworth feed store threatening nearby buildings.

CHATSWORTH, CA — Fire consumed bales of hay at a Chatsworth feed store and threatened nearby structures Wednesday afternoon. The dry bales of hay erupted in heavy flames sending smoke billowing into the sky that could be seen for miles around.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews are on the scene taking a defensive stance to stop the blaze from spreading to surrounding buildings in the 10300 block of North Mason Avenue, according to a fire department spokesman. The blaze is in a shopping center with multiple businesses including Kahoots Animals & Supplies.

"Firefighters are protecting nearby structures from the radiant heat and possible flame impingement," said LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange.
