Grocery Outlet Chatsworth Location Opens Thursday

The 18,000-square-foot bargain supermarket on Mason Street is giving away $1,000 in free groceries to a contest winner.

CHATSWORTH, CA — Discount supermarket chain Grocery Outlet is opening a location in Chatsworth Thursday. The 18,000-square-foot location on 9805 Mason Ave., near the intersection with Lassen Street, is the chain’s third location in the San Fernando Valley, after Burbank and Sun Valley.

Grocery Outlet was founded in 1946 in San Francisco, and currently has 375 locations in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Idaho, and Pennsylvania. It is known for its low prices on overstock and closeout products from private-label groceries, and offers a full range of foods, as well as produce, meat, beer, wine, and health and beauty products.

To celebrate its opening, the Chatsworth location is offering up the ultimate bargain: starting Thursday through April 22, shoppers can win $1,000 in groceries in an online contest.

Grocery Outlet stores are traditionally managed by independent operators based in their communities. The Chatsworth store will be run by Northridge couple Christopher and Lisette Herrera.

“We spent a year and a half learning about the company, and we got to work at a few neighboring stores,” Christopher told the LA Daily News. “We’ve worked in retail and have done volunteer work with our local church. This gave us the opportunity to blend our professional skills and our heart for the community.
