How To Recycle Your Christmas Tree In Northridge-Chatsworth

LOS ANGELES, CA — Christmas may be over, but that doesn't mean your Christmas tree can't still be used. Los Angeles recycles as many as 100-thousand trees annually with a Christmas tree recycling program that spares the trees from ending up in landfills.

Instead, discarded Christmas trees are ground up into mulch and compost for the community. For residents looking to make good use of their old Christmas trees, there are several options including using a green bin, curbside pickup or using designated drop-off locations. There will be drop off locations Jan. 6 at six locations from Encino and Griffith Park to Westchester.

Alternatively, San Fernando Valley residents can drop off their used trees at participating fire stations such as FIRE STATION #28 at 11641 Corbin Avenue in Porter Ranch, FIRE STATION #81 14355 Arminta Street in Panorama City, and FIRE STATION #88 5101 N. Sepulveda Boulevard in Sherman Oak, and FIRE STATION #106 23004 Roscoe Boulevard in West Hills.

To use a green bin for Christmas tree recycling, residents need to remove the decorations and stand and, if needed, cut the tree into pieces.

Residents unable to cut and place their tree in their green bin may leave it at the curb on their weekly collection day.
