How You Doin?
We should have seen it coming 2020 check-up. Next year when we ask each other "How you doin'?" we can firmly say I'm seeing more clearly.

The phrase which is synonymous with “Joey” on the television show “Friends” was probably repeated more than “What’s new” this year. We checked up on each other by electronic means and sincerely wanted to make sure the answer was elicited and not followed up with a four-letter answer.
Los Angeles City lock down began when the Mayor of Los Angeles issued a “Safer At Home” order on March 19th. Few people realized it would extend out 6 months – and the dramatic dynamics – including STRESS.
- Some people saw a complete shut-down of income - which
- Other were limited in visitation to family members already in the hospital or a nursing home
- Scheduled non-emergency medical procedures were postponed
- School classrooms were shuttered as parents became teachers-aides OR even full-time teachers
- Business offices were transferred to homes
- Rent was put on hold as was mortgages - but still due in the future
- Graduations, birthdays, weddings, Easter, Passover, and other celebrations were shut-down
- Medical appointments for eye care, dental care, physical therapy, and more were cancelled
- And the list continues
- Community worship was shuttered but personal religious expression was not.
BUT on the flip side we discovered:

- Why we bought our home, or chose a rental unit: TO LIVE IN IT and ENJOY ourselves in an environment and ambiance we designed and decorated.
- You could walk with your family nightly and enjoy it.
- You could ride a bike OUTSIDE without a motor easing or increasing an accelerated pace.
- You could trust someone to shop for you
- You did not need to find security owning six times the toilet tissue than necessary
- Our family
- Our car was more than a means to come-and-go daily to work
- Consuming a month’s worth of snacks in a few days was not the loftiest goal
- The hero’s were the people who day-in-and-day-out take care of the city’s infrastructure, who guard us, who mend our bodies, who rescue us or put out fires, those who re-connect us to the world wide web AND those who are moving us forward to a manufacturing nation.
Now 6 months later we can look back on how we weathered numerous cycles of municipal and state permissions or restrictions. We are more sensitive to the grief of others or our own; for those who succumbed to death by violence, the virus, or a multitude of other illnesses which end our life.
We should have seen 2020 as symbolic for VISION ADJUSTMENT. And maybe that is what we will retain and reflect. The year our VISION was fine-tuned, adjusted, made better. So next year when we ask each other “How you doin’?” we can firmly say I’m seeing more clearly.
