Hungry? Los Toros Offers Free Dinner To Qualifying Residents

CHATSWORTH, CA —Times are tough, and sometimes some great Mexican food can make a big difference.

Councilmember John Lee has teamed up with famed Chatsworth restaurant Los Toros to create the “Dinner On Us” program, which offers a free dinner to District 12 residents experiencing food insecurity. Residents who have served as caretakers, educators or have “gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve others during these trying times” are also eligible, according to a statement from Lee.

The program is partly sponsored by the Change Reaction, a nonprofit organization that has provided grocery gift cards to some District 12 residents, and provided interest-free loans and business advice to small businesses in the district. The Change Reaction presented Los Toros with a $25,000 loan in December through their Small Business Angel Fund, which helped bring the restaurant back at a time when owner Nicolas Montaño feared his 53-year-old restaurant wouldn’t survive the pandemic.

Montaño, who was just elected to serve on the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, has long supported community initiatives. The restaurant regularly feeds the homeless, firefighters, funds scholarships, and organizes golf fundraisers. In February, Montaño and Lee delivered meals to ER and ICU staff at West Hills Hospital.
