Looking At Constitution Day Amidst A Shutdown

The discussions concerning the effectiveness & legitimacy of the lockdown because of the Corona Virus touches on freedom of movement & freedom of commerce; and we will continue interlocutions or debates well into next year. Meanwhile, we found an interesting post on a candidate's social media portal. It started out resolutely concerning the Constitution and then segued into the personal effects on business because of the lockdown; but all framed in a gratitude for the Constitution. Here is an excerpt:

"On this day in 1787, at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, our Founders adopted our national Constitution.

Our nation stood alone, with a Constitution that guaranteed our liberties, our persons, and our property. Why? Because it limited what the Government could do to us.

Today, some 233 years later, many Americans continue to enjoy the God-given liberties enshrined in our Constitution.

But not in California.

Today, in our once Golden State, we live under a one-party rule with a Governor who issues Executive Orders at every whim. We languish under virtual house arrest, confined to our homes. Our children suffer because they can no longer go to school.

Only essential business can operate. The rest must struggle under edicts whose only purpose is to cause failure. Daily Restaurants and Bars close for good, while businesses owned by the Newsom family still thrive.

My family worked for years to build our business. Like many of you, the mandates closed ours. Without income to cover the expense, we had to lay off our employees. They had to seek employment elsewhere if they could find any.

Remember September 17th as the day our Constitution was adopted and shielded us from government overreach. Then never forget that Gavin Newsom has abandoned and trampled on our Constitution.

It is ironic that 2020 Constitution Day there is no Resolution made by Congress recognizing the significance of the document they all take an oath to uphold. The President, however, did make a proclamation for this day including this statement

" On this day and during this week, we celebrate the citizens and the Constitution that have made America the greatest Nation this world has ever known. In doing so, we recommit ourselves to the enduring principles of the Constitution and thereby “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity.”

And that should be sufficient to see the stark difference between the limitations of a STATE lockdown with the Freedoms of a document which was replicated around the world.
