Lost Hiker Rescued In Granada Hills
Two LAFD helicopters rescued a hiker who lost his way on a remote trail north of O'Melverny Park.
GRANADA HILLS, CA — A lost hiker was rescued Sunday on a remote trail north of O’Melveny Park in Granada Hills, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
An adult male hiker was separated from his three friends Sunday afternoon on a remote trail deep inside the park. Lost, fatigued, but uninjured, he dialed 911, and eventually two LAFD helicopters tracked him down and reunited him with his friends, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Humphrey told Patch that as spring slowly approaches, more hikers are likely to get lost. To avoid incidents like the one described above, Humphrey said that the LAFD recommends that hikers:

- Not overestimate their own abilities or underestimate the challenges
- Never hike alone
- Bring plenty of drinking water
- Only bring pets if they’re up to the challenge
- Tell others where they’re going and when they plan to return
- Bring a charged phone
- Stick to the trails
- Be aware of the local animal and plant life
- Look out for poison oak
- If you’re lost and out of service, walk until you find a place to call 911
