The Most Romantic Supermarket In Northridge

"Who knew shopping at that grocery store would change my life forever?"

For this month's Love In A Small Town feature, we asked Patch readers to tell us the story behind their romantic chance encounters. This is Jodi Jacobsen's story:

“Our story started before the smartphone explosion — just plain old meeting by chance! In January of 1993, I was shopping at my local grocery store and was assisted by one of the managers who I thought was cute. It was a quick meeting, but I couldn’t shake thinking about him. Each time I shopped I was hoping to see him, and from time to time we would chat a bit, laugh a lot and that would be the end of it.

I didn’t see him for a few months and was concerned he had been transferred. Surprisingly, I saw him one evening as I was leaving the store and my heart jumped a bit. That was far from normal for me.

He shared he was handling some family matters and our conversations became a bit more personal. Finally, in early December of 1993, I gave him my number and said we should meet for coffee. It took him a while to call but by the end of the month we went out, and by November 1995 we were married!

My work associates told me at our wedding that even before meeting my husband they knew something was different from the way I spoke about him. Who knew shopping at that grocery store would change my life forever?”
