Northridge-Chatsworth Car Pursuit Leads To CHP Motorcycle Crash

NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH, CA -- A California Highway Patrol officer involved in a chase was struck by another vehicle and hospitalized with major non-life threatening injuries.

A CHP motorcycle officer attempted to stop a Honda for traveling the wrong way near the intersection of the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway and Balboa Boulevard, but the suspect didn't stop and a pursuit ensued about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, according to the CHP.

The pursuit traveled on multiple streets in the San Fernando Valley and the suspect, identified as Brandon Rogers, 24, of Chatsworth, ``used his vehicle as a weapon and attempted to ram a CHP motorcycle officer on two different occasions,'' the CHP said in a statement.

Officers terminated their pursuit of the Honda on Reseda Boulevard, south of Lassen Street, due to the dangerous driving of the suspect, but ``the vehicle was followed by news media who directed a (Los Angeles Police Department) helicopter to the location of the vehicle,'' the statement said.

Rogers ditched the Honda and ran off in the area of Vicente Street and Reseda Boulevard and was arrested about 3:50 p.m. on Plummer Street, east of Reseda Avenue, the CHP said.

The crash involving another motorcycle officer occurred about 1:45 p.m. near Devonshire Street and Zelzah Avenue, as a vehicle turned left into a parking lot and struck the officer, the CHP said.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital with major non-life threatening injuries, the CHP said.

Rogers was being held on $1 million bail Friday morning, and a passenger who had been in the suspect's vehicle was taken into custody after jumping from the moving vehicle, according to the CHP.
