Northridge Man Arrested For $2.2M Prescription Drug Scheme
Hakob Kojoyan pled guilty to distributing illegally obtained prescription drugs to unsuspecting purchasers.
NORTHRIDGE, CA — A Northridge man was sentenced Monday to 33 months in prison for a prescription drug scheme. The defendant was also ordered to forfeit his Palm Springs home.
Hakob Kajoyan, 29, admitted to distributing illegally obtained prescription drugs to unsuspecting purchasers. In his plea agreement, Kojoyan said that he and associates used a Pennsylvania company, Mainspring Distribution, LLC., to pose as a legitimate prescription drug wholesaler. Kajoyan then obtained prescription drugs from black market sources in California, and sold the drugs through Mainstream to unsuspecting wholesale customers.
Kajoyan and co-defendants specialized in expensive brand-name prescription drugs used to treat HIV, according to the Department of Justice.

In a memo filed for the sentencing, the government said that Kojoyan and his co-defendants knowingly violated laws requiring prescription drug wholesalers to provide customers with detailed information about the drugs they sell, including transaction history.
The government asserted that Kojoyan and his co-defendants set up fraudulent bank accounts, and received approximately $2.2 million from accounts associated with Mainspring. Kajoyan invested his earnings into a Palm Springs home, which is being forfeited.
