Porter Ranch AMC Temporarily Recloses, Hopes To Reopen Tuesday

The theater closed down just two days after it reopened when a broken sewer main line was discovered.

PORTER RANCH, CA — It was nice while it lasted.

After a much heralded reopening on Friday, AMC Porter Ranch 9 closed back down on Monday after it was discovered that the theater’s main sewer line was not working properly.

“The theatre is closed today so that necessary repairs can be made,” AMC spokesperson Ryan Noonan told Patch in an email. “Repairs are underway, and we are hopeful that the theatre will reopen tomorrow.”

On Friday, after nearly a year of closure, AMC Theaters reopened the AMC Porter Ranch 9 theater, in addition 24 other locations around Los Angeles, including Burbank and Woodland Hills.

Under new red tier guidelines, movie theaters can open at 25 percent of the facility’s capacity or 100 people, whichever is fewer. Masks will be required, although they can be removed in the theater to consume food and beverages. People must remain six feet apart, ticket purchases will be contactless, and hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available. “The reopening of movie theaters in Los Angeles County and throughout California is a momentous occasion for AMC Theatres, for our guests, for our associates, for our studio partners, and for the entire theatrical exhibition industry,” said Adam Aron, CEO and President of AMC Theatres.

When the theater reopens, it is showing “Raya and the Last Dragon,” “Tom and Jerry,” “Chaos Walking,” “The Courier,” “Boogie,” “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off,” and “Magic Mike.” The AMC website said that the theater is unexpectedly closed and is not currently listing showtimes, so this list is based off other locations and a Google search.
