Red Flag Warning Issued For LA Region

The red flag warning takes effect across the region at 12 a.m. Monday.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA — A wind advisory remains in effect across the Los Angeles County region through 3 p.m. Monday, prompting a red flag warning, the National Weather Service reported Sunday night.

North to northeast winds of 20 to 35 mph, with gusts to 50 mph in some areas, are forecast, according to the NWS.

Gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially for drivers of high profile vehicles, the agency said.

Stronger winds are forecast for the Los Angeles County Mountains and pass areas (excluding the Santa Monica Mountains), where a high wind advisory has been issued. The north winds will be strongest across the Interstate 5 corridor, according to the NWS.

"Damaging winds will blow down large objects such as trees and power lines," the NWS reported. "Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. This includes Highway 33 in Ventura County as well as Interstate 5 and Highway 14 in Los Angeles County."

Hot temperatures are expected to return to the region by mid week, with the mercury nearing triple digits in valley areas, according to forecasters.
