Slain TSA Agent was a Porter Ranch Dad

Gerardo I. Hernandez is being remembered as a family man.

The TSA agent killed in a shooting at Los Angeles International Airport Friday was a Porter Ranch resident described by his neighbors as a husband and father, CBS2 reports.

Gerardo I. Hernandez, 39, was gunned down at Terminal 3 at 9:20 a.m. and died less than two hours later at UCLA Medical Center, making him the first TSA employee to die in the line of duty since the agency was formed after 9/11.

The alleged perpertator was 23-year-old Paul Anthony Ciancia, who walked into the terminal, pulled an assault rifle out of a bag and started shooting. He was later shot by police and taken into custody, said Patrick Gannon chief of the Airport Police Department.

At least one other person was injured by gunfire.

Back in Porter Ranch, Hernandez's neighbors remembered him as a family man who moved to the community about a year ago.

“It’s just tragic. What a terrible thing. Here’s a man who was trying to serve his country, do his job well and support his family, and this is a senseless thing that happened; it shouldn’t have happened," Kevin Wong told CBS2.
