NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH, CA — Watching cat and dog brothers and sisters tangling with each other in play or licking each other’s fur is one of the great joys in life. It is twice the work, but twice the fun. Now, you can take part in that joy, and countless others, by offering homes to pairs of bonded kittens or German shepherds.

Bowie and Dolly are a brother and sister who are about six weeks old and each weigh two pounds, according to Kim Higley, a volunteer for Best Friends, an organization that rescues animals from kill shelters. Bowie is named after rocker David Bowie because they both have heterochromia, the official term for different colored eyes. It is unknown if he responds to “Ziggy Stardust,” but it’s worth a try. Dolly is a “peach/tan angel,” Higley says.

Bowie and Dolly are both friendly, playful, litter-trained, and vaccinated. They are being spayed next week, at which point they will be ready to adopt. They are bonded, so they need to be adopted together. If interested, email Kim Higley at kjay81@gmail.com.

The two pairs of German shepherds are slightly bigger than Bowie and Dolly: Hanz and Franz are eight-year-old Husky mix brothers, while Masha and Sasha are purebred two-year-old sisters. They grew up together on a 40-acre fenceless ranch in Santa Paula, and are thus best suited to a similar type of property. It is also preferable that the four dogs remain together. They are all fully vaccinated, microchipped, toilet-trained, and good with people. If interested, contact owner Patti Mitchell at 805-341-7900 or patti@pacificviewranch.com.
