Without a doubt, there's nothing like a good old fashion state fair. The kettle corn popping, the ears of fresh corn slathered in butter, the shaved ice fashioned into snow cones, the burgers, the franks, the, uh, sushi.

Students at the independent Sierra Canyon School spent the academic year studying about the states and mounted their own Americana State Fair this past Friday.

The Chatsworth school claims enrollment from more than 80 ZIP codes, ranging from Culver City and Beverly Hills on the south, to Palmdale on the north; from Ventura and Simi Valley to the west, to Pasadena on the east.

Classes set up booths featuring games of skill representing each of the states they studied. There was live music by Country Nation. There were shout-outs to individuals and groups who have served the community, including Patch.

There were student performances and a raffle of gift baskets featuring items like a flat screen TV, kitchen appliances, family board games and exclusive time with various faculty members.
