As you take your trash out to the curb this week, police remind you to fold the boxes that held your more expensive gifts and put them inside the trashcan, so that thieves don’t get any ideas about targeting your home.

Similarly, fire officials want residents to know that every day that passes, old Christmas trees present more of a hazard capable of sending an entire room up in flames in under 10 seconds.

CR&R will be collecting old trees curbside on trash day this week and next through Jan. 7th, said Craig Dibley, Sustainability Supervisor for CR&R.

Residents can put their tree in the container or next to it on the curb, and the garbage truck will collect it as long as the stand, lights, tinsel or ornaments are off, said Dibley.

Trash collection will occur on normal days this week except for neighborhoods where the usual collection date is Friday, which falls on the New Year’s Day holiday. In those communities, trash will be collected on Saturday, added Dibley.
