Woman's Body Found In Granada Hills Brush Fire

GRANADA HILLS, CA — Firefighters Tuesday found a woman's body at the scene of a vegetation fire that started in a homeless encampment in the Granada Hills area.

The body was discovered about 11 a.m. at 11454 N. Balboa Blvd., where the firefighters had quickly doused a brush fire that also damaged the exterior of a nearby gas station building, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Information was not immediately available on the victim's name or cause of death. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

"Investigation reveals that the fire began in a homeless encampment surrounded by medium to thick brush at the Balboa Blvd off-ramp from the Ronald Reagan (118) Freeway," according to an LAFD statement. "Flames spread to the roof of an adjacent gas station market but firefighters quickly stopped the fire from involving the inside of the market and nearby fuel pumps."

The woman's body was found near a wall separating the homeless encampment and gas station building, the LAFD reported.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives were sent to the scene.
