22nd Annual Inter-Tribal Powwow Draws Big Saturday Crowd
This annual weekend event held at the San Luis Rey Mission includes traditional dancing, costumes and drum circle.
OCEANSIDE, CA - The San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians are welcoming the entire community for their 22nd annual Inter-Tribal Powwow held this weekend June 9-10, 2018. Sponsored by the San Luis Rey Mission Indian Foundation this event is a throwback to a time when 215 years ago, the Catholic priests first came upon the local tribe.
The powwow continues on Sunday from 9:00a - 6:00p. Enjoy the traditional dancing, costumes and drum circles. The costumes are vividly colorful and the intricacies of the patterns during the dancing is spectacular to see, while the songs from their ancestors are both exciting and moving.
Come see the history of Oceanside, embodied in the culture and spirit of the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians. There are also lots of arts & crafts booths and a wide selection of food vendors. While you are there take a stroll around the beautiful and historic San Luis Rey Mission which is one of the oldest missions in California.
