Camp Pendleton First Sergeant Awarded Bronze Star for Actions in Afghanistan
Marine 1st Sgt. Curtis Rice received the Bronze Star on Monday for taking proactive measures to save lives and overcome the enemy.

Marine 1st Sgt. Curtis Rice was awarded the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device at Camp Pendleton on Monday for actions taken while serving as the senior enlisted Marine on the Embedded Training Team 1-11, 2nd Kandak, 3rd Brigade, 201st corps. A portion of the citation read:
He led an aggressive counter-attack on an enemy element of about 50 fighters that was overrunning a small [Afghanistan Army] observation post.
“Our job is to defend our nation,” Rice said at the award ceremony. “And our nation is so proud of us, and I am so humbled to be a part of this organization.”
