Camp Pendleton Fire Crews to Perform Controlled Burns
Base firefighters will burn brush in the San Onofre Shelf area of Camp Pendleton over the weekend to minimize the potential of developed areas catching fire.
Camp Pendleton base officials advised Friday that residents who live or work near the San Onofre Shelf area may see or smell smoke on Saturday and Sunday, as military firefighters will be conducting controlled burns for purposes of brush-clearing, City News Service reported.
The seasonal hazard-reduction prescribed fire is intended to improve existing fire breaks that protect developed areas of Camp Pendleton, according to base officials.
