Just in time for Military Appreciation Month, rideshare company Lyft is launching a first of its kind pilot program on military base, Camp Pendleton.
The program called Base Mode is a year-long ride-sharing agreement designed to give better access for Marines and their families. Lyft is partnering with the Department of Defense, to enable “select drivers to have base access — making it easier to pick up and drop off passengers on the base.”
According to the Camp Pendleton website, the daytime population can be up to 70,000 military and civilian personnel. That is a lot of people needing transportation and many ride services may not have access to get on the base.

When Base Mode launches Friday, only drivers with access will be matched with those requesting rides on base.
According to the MCCSCP website the Base Mode program also offers a way to earn by becoming a driver. Plus, a portion of all revenue from Base mode will go toward community programs for MCCS.
