Camp Pendleton Set Aflame for Fire School Training

The training is an initiative that will bring approximately 50 local, state and federal fire agencies together for live fire exercises on the base.

Starting Monday, eastern portions of Camp Pendleton will be burned to simulate real wildfires for Fire School 2011, according to Camp Pendleton officials.

Smoke may be visible throughout the Northern San Diego County area. Some 50 local, state and federal fire departments will be represented at the training, which continues until June 17.

Two one-week sessions will give firefighters hands-on training in putting out wild land fires. The fires will be small, according to base officials, so that each fire crew will have time to put out between two and three initial fires and then respond to between three and five secondary blazes.
