Celebrate World Oceans Day - June 8

Explore events and ideas to help honor and protect the ocean

Oceanside, CA - World Oceans Day is a global celebration held every June 8 with events around the world celebrating our ocean. Living in Oceanside we have a special connection to the ocean that is key to our identity as a community and one of the key privileges is being able to visit and enjoy
the ocean on a daily basis. That privilege also comes with a special responsibility to protect and conserve the natural beauty and plentiful resources provided by the ocean.

The World Oceans Day concept was originally proposed in 1992 by Canada's International Centre for Ocean Development and the Ocean Institute of Canada at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The theme of World Oceans Day 2019 is 'Gender and the Ocean'.

There are many ways to get involved and make a difference ranging from participating in a beach clean-up day to supporting organizations that are fighting to protect our oceans. You can find a list of events on the World Oceans Day website here: https://www.worldoceansday.org/events-list.
