Dodgers to Recognize Camp Pendleton Marine and IAVA Veterans
Before the L.A. Dodgers square off against the New York Mets, there will be a Fourth of July tribute to Marine Sgt. Alan Michaels and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
Marine Corps Sgt. Alan Michaels will be recognized as Veteran of the Game at Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium on Monday before the Dodgers play the New York Mets.
Michaels is stationed at Camp Pendleton and is regaining the use of a leg after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, according to City News Service.
A group of 125 veterans from the Iraqi and Afghanistan Veterans of
America, a national veterans advocacy group, and their families will be introduced in center field during the pre-game ceremonies, which will include fireworks, a giant American flag an display by Navy sailors and Marines and a video tribute to late President Ronald Reagan narrated by longtime Dodger announcer Vin Scully.
