Dorothy's Tailors Its Service to Camp Pendleton

Military shop Dorothy's has been servicing base personnel for more than 60 years.

is an Oceanside mainstay. Jerry Alexander and his family took ownership of Dorothy's in 1980, but the shop has been around since 1955, he said.

“Military presence is huge in north San Diego County,” said Alexander. “We get a little bit of a surge [in business] before they leave, and, of course, when they're gone there's nothing here.”

When Camp Pendleton Marines and sailors deploy, Alexander said, his budget gets a little tighter.

Military personnel go to Dorothy's, located just off the Camp Pendleton main gate, for their tailoring and dry cleaning needs because the service is quick and hassle-free.

“I have a dress white inspection coming up,” said Stacey Lackey, a Navy corpsman stationed at the Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. “My [leading petty officer] and one of the master chiefs in my command told me that this was the best place to go to get it done.”
