Free Wi-Fi Once Again Available on North County COASTER Trains

Thanks to the improvements, passengers will now be able to connect to the internet over the Wi-Fi network with 100% reliability.

The North County Transit District made the following announcement on Wednesday, June 19, 2013:

North County Transit District is pleased to announce that the free Wi-Fi service on the COASTER is once again up and running. NCTD and its service provider, T-Mobile have spent the last several months testing and enhancing the Wi-Fi system on board the commuter trains. Thanks to the improvements, passengers will now be able to connect to the internet over the Wi-Fi network with 100% reliability.

NCTD Chief Technical Officer, Ryan Cashin says that while the connectivity issues have been resolved and the network is much improved, connection speeds will continue to vary depending on how many passengers use the network at any given time and what they are using it for.

“This free Wi-Fi service is only intended for light internet usage such as checking email and browsing the internet. In order to provide a good experience for all of our passengers, we request users to refrain from streaming music or video or downloading large files. The system is just not designed for such a heavy volume of usage,” said Cashin.

More information and the acceptable use policy are available at GoNCTD.com/wi-fi_policy.
