Garage Fire Causes Costly Damage; No Injuries Reported

Twenty firefighters put out the blaze at a home on Garfield Street.

A predawn fire in a house’s garage in Oceanside’s Crown Heights neighborhood Saturday caused about $100,000 in damage, but none of the home’s 15 residents were injured, fire officials said.

A resident smelled smoke after going to the kitchen at the home at 303 Garfield St. about 2:20 a.m., and woke up the rest of the family, according to the Oceanside Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived in about six minutes to smoke and fire coming from the garage, fire officials said. They removed the garage door and extinguished a burning vehicle along with the contents of the garage.
