How Oceanside School District Spent Coronavirus Aid

A review of CARES Act spending in 2020 reveals Oceanside school district spending priorities during the initial phases of the pandemic.

OCEANSIDE, CA — Oceanside Unified School District’s spending on PPE (Personal protective equipment) surpassed all else at the district for the first major wave of COVID-19 relief funds last year, a new Voice of San Diego analysis of state data shows.

While many other school districts in San Diego county spent the majority of funds on distance learning, Oceanside Unified School District spent 68% on PPE and 31% on distance learning.

The CARES Act, passed by federal lawmakers in March 2020 sent nearly $296 million to 161 public K-12 San Diego County school districts and charter schools to help deal with the virus' impact, according to the California Department of Finance.

Oceanside:
