If Census Numbers Are Any Indication, Camp Pendleton Women Have Their Pick
Men at Camp Pendleton outnumber females 2.3 to 1, according to the 2010 Census.

It comes as no surprise that Camp Pendleton men outnumber women, but the size of the gender gap might cause some to sit up and take notice.
For every woman who lives on the base, there are about 2.3 men, according to 2010 numbers released Thursday by the Census Bureau.
Women who are 20 to 24 years old, the age range that represents the largest portion of Pendleton's population, have it even better: roughly 503 males for every 100 females in their largely eligible grouping.

The lopsided male-to-female ratio is just one of the highlights from the latest 2010 Census numbers.
The Census counts are closely followed by federal agencies and local governments since they determine funding for a variety of programs and can result in the redrawing of election district lines.

In numbers released earlier this year, the 2010 Census pegged Camp Pendleton's population at 37,452, with a racial breakdown of 76 percent white; 7.8 percent African-American or black; 2.9 percent Asian; 1.4 percent American Indian or Alaskan Native; 0.8 percent Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander; 5.1 other race; and 6 percent of two or more races.
Those of Hispanic or Latino origin, counted separately under ethnicity rather than race, make up 21 percent of Camp Pendleton's population.
The latest numbers further breaks down the base population by age and provide more details about the status of children, racial groups and housing units.
One thing that hasn't changed much since the 2000 Census is the clear advantage single, eligible women hold over single, eligible men.
Might this be a selling point for Marine recruiters seeking female cadets? Asked this question earlier this week, one recruiter at the Marine Corps' Oceanside office declined comment.
