1. The San Francisco 49ers opened its gates Sunday to Marines and Navy personnel who were in town for San Francisco Fleet Week.
“It’s awesome being able to come down here, be able to sit pretty much on the field and watch the Niners win a game,” said Lance Cpl. Stephen Lewis, a military policeman assigned to Camp Pendleton's Combat Logistics Regiment 17, in a story on the DVIDs website.

2. A San Clemente-based knitting group puts needles to yarn each year to produce blankets, caps and booties for Camp Pendleton babies, the Orange County Register reports.

The Knit-Wits, the group which has been volunteering materials and their members' knitting talents for 10 years, will be presenting families with packs of their knitted items at Camp Pendleton's Baby Boot Camp on Oct. 25, the Register said.
The camp is sponsored by Marine Corps Community Services Camp Pendleton and helps new parents learn how to care for their newborns.
3. Military retirees enrolling for TRICARE Prime will be immediately impacted by an increase in the annual fee of $2.50 a month for an individual plan and $5 a month for a family plan. Those already enrolled will see the fee increases next year, according to a release from the TRICARE Management Activity agency.
The increases follow changes to pharmacy payments, notes the National Military Family Association website, including TMA's offer of free, home-delivered generic medications and cost hikes for brand-name medications bought at retail.
Also, in a Defense Department release Friday, TMA announced a "data breach" involving personal health information about patients who received care or filled prescriptions in San Antonio-area military treatment facilities from 1992 through Sept. 7, 2011. But also potentially impacted are "beneficiaries who received care elsewhere, but whose laboratory workups were processed in San Antonio military treatment facilities."

4. A former Marine convicted in the murders of three people in Illinois was .
Andrew Urdiales, 47, appeared for the first time in an Orange County courtroom Friday, . He is accused of killing five women while stationed at military bases around California.
Prosecutors say he stabbed 23-year-old Robbin Brandley 41 times after driving from Camp Pendleton to Saddleback College in search of a random victim, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Urdiales' arraignment hearing was postponed to Dec. 1.
