June 8, 1995: Marine Rescue Team Recovers Downed Pilot in Bosnia
A Marine TRAP team with the 24th MEU rescues downed Air Force pilot Scott O'Grady.

It was June 2, 1995. Air Force fighter pilot Scott O'Grady's F-16C was hit by a Bosnian Serb SA-6 surface-to-air missile while patrolling the no-fly zone. O'Grady ejected and proceeded to perform evasion tactics to keep from being captured. On June 8, he was rescued by the Marine Corps Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) Team with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The event came to be known as the Mrkonjić Grad incident and was dramatized in the film Behind Enemy Lines with Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson.
