OCEANSIDE, CA —There are many interesting things that happened on May the 4th in history including, Rhode Island became the first American colony to renounce allegiance to King George III (1776). Al Capone starts his 11-year prison sentence (1932). The first annual Grammy Awards are held (1959).

But, as everyone knows, May the 4th is about STAR WARS! No one knew that a silly little space opera could take over the world. May 25, 1977, opened to a slow start. People weren’t really into the whole space thing at that time. Then that WALL OF WORDS hit the screen and the film world has not been the same ever since.

Star Wars Day is an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4 to celebrate George Lucas's Star Wars media franchise. Observance of the day spread quickly through media and grassroots celebrations since the franchise began in 1977.
