Oceanside Housing Commission Reviews Emergency Shelter Zoning

OCEANSIDE, CA — The Oceanside Housing Commission is holding its regular meeting on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. The Special Advisory for the Housing Commission Meeting agenda includes 3 items that are up for discussion:

a. CDBG CARES Coronavirus Funding Update – Maria Yanez, Housing Program Manager

b. Housing Element – Rob Dmohowski, Sr. Planner, Development Services

c. Revision of the Zoning Ordinance relating to Emergency Shelters – Shannon Vitale, Assoc. Planner, Development Services

It is the 3rd item related to the Emergency Shelters that will likely be the main focus.

The City of Oceanside staff report recommends that the Housing Commission review the proposed revisions to the City's Zoning Ordinance including allowing Emergency Shelters on certain City-owned property and modify the standards for shelters to comply with state housing law.

Due to applicable Public Health and capacity restrictions, the City Council chambers are open to the public with a limited capacity. Members of the public have the option to watch the meeting on KOCT Cox Channel 19 (live streaming service available at http://www.koct.org/channel-19) or participate online via Zoom or attend in person.

Members of the public who elect to attend in person are required to wear facial coverings in City facilities and maintain appropriate social distances, and may be required to wait in a holding area to maintain capacity restrictions.
