Oceanside International Film Festival Starts Sunday August 4th

Oceanside, CA - Get ready for the 9th Annual Oceanside International Film Festival that runs from August 7th – 11th, with a very special engagement on August 4th for Mrs. Henry Presents – The Last Waltz. Presented by the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, this year's line-up includes an impressive array of film industries stars and filmmakers.

Mrs. Henry’s “Last Waltz” not only honors the legacy of The Band’s infamous star studded classic but also portrays a San Diego brotherhood of terrific storytellers and community organizers. Filmed at the internationally acclaimed Belly Up Tavern, this documentary showcases the City’s finest, including guest performances from many of San Diego’s most respected musicians. True to the Scorsese form, the documentary traces the group’s history, reveals the process of arranging the performance, and marks the impact that the seminal concert had on each member of the band. The Oceanside International Film Festival is the longest running film festival in North County and is hugely popular among locals for showcasing innovative cinema in the film and television industry. OIFF 2019 will showcase films from a variety of countries, including but not limited to; France, Australia, Portugal, Spain, and Mexico. For the first time in the festival's history, almost half of the festival's full program will be comprised of local works, spotlighting San Diego filmmakers more than ever before. Short film blocks this year will highlight many genres, including Animation, Romance, Nonfiction & Student Filmmaking.

The 2019 OIFF is shaping up to be the biggest ever with excitement growing over the must-see highlights. Key OIFF Events include:

** Wednesday, Aug 7th starting at 5:30pm, the 2019 Festival’s opening night will be a red-carpet exclusive featuring TNT’s hit television series “Animal Kingdom”.

** Friday Aug 9th 5:30pm, the much talked about Emmy award-winning documentary, "Shattered Dreams: Sex Trafficking in America", Directed by: Bill Wisneski. Examines the pervasive, dark underworld of sex trafficking in America.

** Saturday Aug 10th 4:15pm, the San Diego Premiere and only 2nd public showing of “The Tony Alva Story” chronicling one of skate cultures most iconic figures. Written & Directed by Rick Charnoski & Coan "Buddy" Nichols of Six Stair Productions.

** Saturday Aug 10th Doors open at 5:30pm; “An Evening with Taylor Steele”; known for films like Momentum, Loose Change, Sipping Jetstreams, Shelter, The Drifter... covering his award-winning filmmaking, from right here in north county to around the world.

** Sunday Aug 11th 11:00am, "Self Discovery for Social Survival", a feature documentary Directed by Chris Gentile. Embark on sound and surf journeys that conjures a surreal and serene symbiosis of music, the environment, and local culture.

** Sunday Aug 11th, 1:20pm, “One on One with Joanna Cassidy” - on-stage discussion featuring legendary actress Joanna Cassidy as we honor her past and present contributions to the industry through stories of most treasured on-screen moments.

The Closing Awards Ceremony will kick off at 3:30pm on Sunday, August 11th, featuring 20 categories in all.

Tickets for the Opening Night Gala on Wednesday are SOLD OUT, but the public is encouraged to come out and watch the Red Carpet arrival of the stars, filmmakers and local celebrities starting at 6pm. Festival passes are still available for admission on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
