Oceanside Mayor Will Run for Seat on County Board of Supervisors

Mayor Jim Wood will run against incumbent supervisor Bill Horn, who is seeking his sixth and final term on the Board of Supervisors.

Oceanside Mayor Jim Wood, who has served the city since 2004 in the post, has officially filed paperwork to run against Bill Horn in 2014 for a seat on the County Board of Supervisors.

Wood this week, told U-T San Diego, "It’s time for a change. I am willing to listen to people and to neighborhood concerns.”

Both Wood and Horn are Republicans, but that doesn't mean they've always seen eye to eye on every issue. Wood told the newspaper he thought Horn was wrong in voting against the county's General Plan, which helps set up guidelines for developing the county's unincorporated areas. When the issue was before the Board in August 2011, Horn cast the lone "no" vote.

“[Horn] apparently didn’t think it was important to understand that the General Plan took many years to come together and represented a consensus,” Wood told U-T San Diego.

Wood also told the newspaper that Horn's sometimes abrasive attitude should be concerning for voters.

“Why would we allow bullying at the county Board of Supervisors?” Wood said. “That’s what he has done for years.”

Horn, 76, a Valley Center resident, will be seeking his sixth and final term on the Board of Supervisors.
